Window Styles

Shenandoah Sash & Door can help you decide between various window styles, such as casements and awnings or double hungs and sliders. Once the style is determined, we can demonstrate models with specific features, such as tilt-in sash for easy cleaning, or push-out operation for elegant simplicity. Plus, we can introduce you to more specialized window styles, such as tilt-turns, direct sets and folding windows – which will open up possibilities you hadn't even considered.

Casements

Casements open easily from the side and provide excellent ventilation. They are energy efficient because they seal tightly to the frame when closed, which prevents air infiltration.Use casements behind your sink or near your bed for an easy-open solution in a hard-to-reach area. Mull or stack them with other windows for more ventilation and aesthetic interest. For more information, visit Kolbe's website.

Awnings

Awnings open from the bottom out, with the sash protecting the opening, which allows for ventilation in a variety of weather conditions. Guide bars create an energy-efficient seal by pulling the sash tightly to the frame. They can be mulled or stacked with casement and picture windows to create unique configurations. For more information, visit Kolbe's website.

Double Hungs

Double Hungs have two sash which slide vertically to create openings at the top and bottom. They work well in spaces where a protruding window would obstruct the living space. For more information, visit Kolbe's website.

Sliding Windows

Sliders have sash that slide horizontally to operate. They function well in tight spaces because they take up less vertical space while still offering venting capabilities. For more information, visit Kolbe's website.

Bay Windows

Bay windows are a combination of three or more windows angled 30, 45 or 90 degrees to the exterior of your home. In most cases, bay windows are comprised of center windows that are stationary, flanked by operating double hungs or casements. Bays create expansive views while enhancing curb appeal. For more information, visit Kolbe's Casement or Double Hung website pages.

Bow Windows

Bow windows are comprised of three to seven windows that form a graceful arc that is gentler than the angles of bay windows. Like bay windows, bows expand indoor areas by projecting to the outdoors. Bow windows make rooms seem more spacious and add interest to your home's exterior. For more information, visit Kolbe's Casement website page.

Radius Windows

Radius windows are available as stand-alone full-circles and ovals. Half-circles, quarter-circles and ellipticals can be installed as stand-alone units or stacked and mulled with other windows. For more information, visit Kolbe's website.

Geometric Windows

Geometric windows are available in a wide variety of shapes. They can be stand-alone units or they can be mulled and/or stacked with other windows to create unique configurations. Some common shapes include triangles, trapezoids, parallelograms, octagons, pentagons, diamonds and hexagons. For more information, visit Kolbe's website.

Tilt-Turn Windows

Tilt-turn windows are classic European-style windows that can open in two ways. They can swing in at the side, like a casement or tilt open at the top, like a hopper. Kolbe's tilt-turns operate either way with the simple turn of a handle for maximum ventilation capabilities. For more information, visit Kolbe's website. Direct Set Windows

Direct set windows are designed for projects that do not require operating windows. Corner Windows

Corner windows are designed for projects that do not require operating windows.
